Child dedication is a meaningful moment where parents commit to raising their child in a way that honors God. While it is not a baptism, it is a public declaration of a parent’s desire to lead, guide, and spiritually nurture their child according to biblical principles.
Throughout Scripture, we see examples of parents dedicating their children to the Lord. In 1 Samuel, Hannah dedicates Samuel to God, recognizing that her child ultimately belongs to Him. In Luke, Mary and Joseph present Jesus at the temple, demonstrating their commitment to honor God in how they raised Him. These moments reflect a pattern of acknowledging God’s authority over our children and inviting His purpose into their lives.
Child dedication is also a commitment for parents. It is a promise to model a life of faith, to teach God’s Word, and to create an environment where their child can grow to know and follow Jesus personally. As seen in Deuteronomy 6:5–7, parents are called to love God fully and to intentionally pass that faith on to their children in everyday life.
As a church, we come alongside families in this commitment. We celebrate with them, pray for them, and partner together to help raise the next generation to know and follow Jesus. Child dedication is not just about a moment—it’s about a lifelong journey of faith for both the child and the family.
